Boils down to this: What is more fair:
1.) 1 loss LSU conference loser in 4th place over 12-1 Oregon conference champ
Or
2.) 8 team playoff where LSU has to rematch 3 teams it beat or played already in the regular season: Georgia, Alabama, and maybe Florida/Auburn.

The difference between 12-1 LSU and 12-1 Oregon is razor thin. 4 quality wins vs 1, conference champ vs not, and Oregon barely losing to Auburn across the country and LSU barely winning over Auburn at home.

On the flip side, its much more egregious that LSU would have to rematch 2+ top 8 teams it already beat. That makes the regular season worthless for tough conferences.

So in other words you are scared for LSU rematch against other teams and might lose?

This is an unpopular opinion, but I think we either need to (a) expand the playoff to include all 10 FBS conference champions (e.g., a 12-team structure like the NFL with 10 automatic bids and 2 at large bids with a first-round bye for the Top 4), or (b) relegate the Group of Five to FCS.

FBS football is the only division of any NCAA sport where half the teams have no chance of winning the championship before the season even begins. This is frankly absurd. Either include them or admit that they are a lower tier of football.

I also think conference championships should mean something. Why have conferences at all if winning them doesn't mean anything?

These are big-picture ideas, not tied to any particular season or team. They are also logical, and most CFB fans will bend over backwards to make illogical arguments against these points.

If Bama wins out and doesn’t get in.....its going to 8 teams. Just get ready for it.

I was just lurking but I had to log in to upvote you and 100% agree with every word you said Kyle. It would absolutely make the regular season worthless and I am adamant about leaving the playoffs to only four teams. I don’t care if Bama never makes it in again and we end up 5th ten more times. I want the regular season to mean something and it’s not fair to have a team play two teams again they already beat. Also I’ve said on this board repeatedly if we go to six teams the #7 and #8 will cry foul then we go to eight teams then #9 and #10 will cry foul. It’ll never frickin end man. Four teams that’s it.

If LSU loses the SECC, should they go? If so, why should UGA have to potentially beat them twice?

The only argument against 8 team playoff is player welfare! Period!

Strength of schedule are too variable to narrow it down to 4 teams. All conferences are not created equal and the OOC opponents are different in quantity and quality.

Assuming Oregon wins out, I think LSU barely beating Auburn could benefit them
