Arkansas can not afford Gus.

They are just now trying to get out from under the Bert contract.

They will be paying tons to Chad Morris.

They can’t pay 20 plus million for Gus’ buyout AND then pay the 6-10 year deal that Gus would demand in order to leave Auburn.

It won’t happen.

The only stupid move would be for our AD to negotiate the buyout down to help Gus leave. Make him pay us for the contract he created or keep coaching.

That’s the thing... ARK will not have to pony up the buyout

Gustav's buyout is $7 million.

But that would get us off the hook for the $20+ million we would owe him if we were to terminate him in the next two or three years. Might be worth it in the long run.

I've reached the point where I've come to expect Gustav to go 8-5 pretty much every year, with the occasional chance to win 10 games. If that's what we're stuck with, well, it could be worse. But with Jimmy Sexton as his agent, we will eventually be faced with the decision to continue to pay top dollar for that performance, with the threat that our recruiting will deteriorate if we don't extend his deal.

THAT'S when things will get interesting.
