They need a way to make them vote based on body of work and no names attached. With all this gripping about the teams, Bama is top and has literally not play a single decent team all year. They are there off name only. They are going to have to form divisions to make the playoffs to get a true NC.

if we are stripping the voters of the ability to watch the games and vote purely on metrics then why would we not use computers?

How would you accomplish that? All these conferences are not created equal. So many variables involved that you can only hope they get the top 4 right. So far, I haven't seen the committee miss. I've seen the #5 team have a legitimate argument but that's to be expected when you have 4 spots. The top 4 all deserve what they got. Fair enough for human work.
