I freely admit, that would be one hell of a playoff.
Of course, it doesn't settle the "played an extra game in the conference championship game" issue - but it would be a pretty amazing playoff.

Sure it does. Make a rule that you have to win your Conference to be a Top 4 seed. If the first round games are played on campus, it would be a huge benefit to win your conference and clinch home field advantage.
If you sit out playing in a conference championship game, the best you can hope for is being a road team in the first round of the playoffs.
