I can't wait for Phillip Bag O Donuts to have to pay Jeremy Pruitt to return to Alabama as defensive coordinator. Jeremy's done exactly what the REC has instructed him to do to the slUT "program".

i have said this before i will say it again
Firing Pruitt would be the only thing worse than keeping Pruitt. If we fire him, no one worth a damn comes to coach and we will be stuck with the buyout and some retread or some "up and comer" coach who we will overpay and then wait 3-5 years and back to it again
The last thing we need to do is fire him just to fire him. Without a plan in place, our coaching search will end up being a joke as usual.
We have really dug ourselves a hole but I honestly think the only thing we can do right now is give him some time and let him salvage the recruiting class. If we end up going 2-10 and the recruiting class falls apart then I may revisit the idea of firing him because at that point there'd be no hope for the future.

Bill Clark would be a great hire. I'd do it right after UAB beats Tenn.

Your sources saying Chip Kelly to UAB after VOLS hire Bill Clark?

I think Pruitt deserves and gets four years. When his players are juniors and seniors he will himself have his feet good and wet by then so we will have an idea about whether another four years are warranted. I would love to have him back at Bama so I hope he gets fired but it just won't happen.

I haven't followed Tenn's demise at all. Just really surprised at what's happened - maybe a little saddened that's it come to this.
So rather than start another thread on it:
1) Does CJP just not have the players?
2) Is he just in over his head? Hard to imagine someone who's been around such strong programs being that inept.
3) Bad staff - I thought he had some good assistants? No?
4) I've seen conspiracy posts, i.e., CJP is tanking the program but this makes no sense. If he fails there like he's doing, his HC'ing career is pretty much over. If he has plans beyond UTenn, he needs to get his act together.
5) Is UTenn so financially committed that they're stuck with Pruitt for now?
Would be interesting to see if/when UTenn gets back how they did it. Golden opportunity for somebody.

1) We do not have the players. Cupboard was very bare when he took over (more than pretty much anyone realized). Biggest issue is on the lines. CBJ recruited 265 lb TEs and tried to convert them to Guards. Neglected D Line recruiting. Pruitt addressed with a great OL haul in 1st class and is working on Defense but the horses we do have are young. On the bright side, most of the players doing well this year are Pruitt recruits. Will take time to get the Butch stink off (hence all those transfers youve read about). Skill players and back 7 on Defense are actually pretty solid. Defense has been playing decent this year but it gets overshadowed because of timely mistakes. \
QB play has sucked this year. If JG plays at the same level he did last year, we are 3-1. Somehow has gotten worse even though the line is better. He threw 3 picks total last season and has already thrown more than that this year. Missing wide open receivers, hurling screen passes at 200 mph. We are not sure whats going on.
Skill players are damn good but that depends on QB getting them the ball
2) He is definitely in over his head due to the scope of the job and the fact that its his first HC gig ever. However, I think he is learning on the job. Smart was a first time HC, Fulmer was, etc. He can overcome this, although he is in a fishbowl at UT so that makes it tough.
3) He has a good staff. Defense has been playing decent except for a couple (huge) mental errors. Jim Cheney has had success wherever he goes but when he cant trust the QB to throw the ball 5 yards he is really hamstrung on playcalling.
A few of the other staff haven't been recruiting up to standard so i think we will see a couple departures after this season. But overall the core is very strong.
4) You are correct, this is nonsense. Pruitt doesn't want to fail. He has won everywhere he has been, he is a fiery competitor, and he hates losing more than anyone.
5) We can afford it, however it would be a terrible idea to fire him unless we have a generational type coach lined up to replace him. If you fire a first time HC after 2 seasons who the heck is going to replace them? The last thing we need is another coaching search. Let Pruitt get this recruiting class together, maybe find some success at the back end of our schedule, and see what we can do. If the season ends and we are 2-10 then i might change my tune but right now its a wait-and-see. Weve had 5 coaches since 2008 and there were only 2 in the previous 31 years. We dont need another one yet.

You put “Fulmer” and “smart” in the same question.
