Schiano quit/got fired because he wasn't comfortable having business meetings with Robert Kraft in asian massage parlors.
everyone knows the biggest coach that got away is Gruden.

Tennessee wishes their team even look remotely close to Schiano era Rutgers
His first team at Rutgers went 2-9. His second team went 1-11. The problem is...UT does look remotely close to the Schiano era at Rutgers.
ETA...In his 11 seasons at Rutgers, Schiano was 68-67 (1 game above .500 (playing against Big East teams).
Schiano's 5th season at Rutgers was the first one above .500. Nobody in college football has 5 years to prove themselves anymore.

Rutgers has always been a perennial doormat college football team but from 2005-2011 Shiano guided the Scarlet Knights to a 56-33.
Yeah, I'd say he's better than what they've had lately.

I would take shitty Pruitt over Schiano.

Pruitt may be a loser as a HC but he's magnificent as a DCoordinator, so we'll be happy to have him back in Ttown next year or so.

chiano is in a distant fourth place. Seriously, he sucks as a head coach, just less than Pruitt does. In fact, Schiano sucks as a defensive coordinator too. Ohio State fans were very frustrated with Meyer for not firing Schiano, and were thrilled with Day when that was the first act of his head coaching tenure.
Yeah I dont get the Schiano love. If hes so good, why doesn't he have a job? fricking dude sucks and would have washed out at UT just like every other shitty coach we hire.
This is what Vol fans tell themselves to make them feel better about what the idiots running their university did to Schiano.
Schiano took over a program that had been pure shite for twenty years. He gradually built a program that had averaged 3 wins a year the past eight years and gradually built them into a respectable program... his first year he had 2 wins, then 1, 5, 4, 7, and then went 11-2 in 2006 and finished ranked #12 in the country. He averaged over 8 wins a year his last 6 years there. Your shitty program hasn't averaged 8 wins a year for six years at any time in the last 12 years...a span that includes five different head coaches.
In 2006 he was a 3 point loss to Louisville and a 3 point OT loss to West Virginia away from a perfect season.
But yeah, "fricking dude sucks".
Schiano did develop a reputation for being an abrasive bully during his 2 year stint in the NFL. Combine that with the fact that schools usually don't line up to hire fired NFL coaches, and maybe that's why he didn't get a head job right away.

Aaaaannnd, in true Vol fan fashion, you ignore year 6, when he was 11-2 and was 6 points away from a perfect season.

Schiano averaged 8 wins a year his last six years at Rutgers, and other than the fact that the ball is the same shape, there's precious little about the Tennessee football program that resembles those last six years of Schiano's.

You and the rest of the SEC would not and have not shut the frick up about hiring Schiano and how much we "messed up."
Why the hell would we want to hire the person whom all of our opponents want us to hire? You all want us to fail!
We didn't need another retread, roundish, Northeastern gimmicky bullshite buzzcut coach right after we already had one of those
Besides, as much as you want to claim so, Gregs success was not assured here. He has no SEC experience or ties to recruits down here. And he would be heavily negatively recruited against as a known a-hole and a little incident at Penn State that he may or may not have been involved in
Pruitt obviously hasn't worked out so far, but i would rather take a chance on someone with SEC ties than a coach who cant even find a coaching job

How has Kiffin not been mentioned in this thread?

Unemployed Greg would have been the worst hire possible. The trolling has gone too far when people are suggesting he is a better option than Mullen.

Cherry picking again, I see. Pruitt isn't in his last 6 years. His first 2 years are eerily similar to Schiano's first two at Rutgers.
Do you honestly think that Pruitt would get 5 years to reach .500 at Tennessee? Do you think any coach would?
You can't focus on the year he was 11-2, without focusing on the 3 seasons when he had a combined 1 win in conference play (that single win was during that "magical" 6 year stretch you are saying he should be judged on).
Mike Dubose went 10-3 at Alabama in 1999 and won an SEC Championship, (and was 2 points away from being 12-1). By your criteria, he should be hailed as one of the great coaches for the tide (he also won his conference all 4 years he coached at Millsaps). Why didn't he get a shot at another big time program?
You know why.

They were 25-24 in Big East Play from 2005-2011.
His 2010 team had wins over Norfolk State, Florida International, UCONN and Army. That is it. That is in his 10th year in the program, and UCONN was their only conference win.

Yeah, you'd be wrong. He is pretty much identical to what UT has had lately.

Rutgers had only 2 winning seasons in the 20 years leading up to Schiano. They had won a total of 11 games in the previous 5 seasons.
Rutgers was easily the worst major college program when Schiano took over.
Rutgers had never won a bowl game, Schiano won 5.
