SP+ only ranks the 130 FBS teams. (It doesn't rank FCS teams like Sagarin.) Georgia State is 120th and SJSU is 107th. And that's despite their games against Arkansas and Tennessee. Without those games, they'd be even worse.

Well it doesn't really rank "wins", but it does show that they haven't been very good all year on a play by play basis.....and I haven't checked the game performance but I don't think either played miraculous perfect games to win.

Beating an SEC team is pretty much always going to bring up your S&P rating when you're that bad.

GSU was probably helped especially by the Tennessee game because Tennessee got a TD at the end, and I know Connely has some "garbage time" filters. Without the Tennessee game, GSU would almost certainly be in the bottom 5 of FBS.

I think the scarier thing is I'm not sure Tennessee and Arkansas will rank much higher than Sun Belt teams once all the preseason filler is removed.

Wins and losses dont even play into S&P+, it's all about efficiencies and how you play against the mean basically.

Actually, SP+, like FPI, now counts the preseason stuff for the entire year. Connelly made a lot of changes before the 2018 season, and that was one of them.

It does but it strips a whole lot of it once data comes in.

In FPI, SJSU is 112 and Georgia State is 113.

Beating Little Sisters of the Poor carries more weight than beating UTk and Arky
