The Box for those who dont know is how many defenders are between the OTs, up to 5 yards off the LOS.
Multiple times lastnight when we questioned the run game, certain ppl on here responded saying due to lack of a pass threat that the D has 8 in the box.

Watching the game again today and UTM had a base 3-2-6, of 3 DL with 2 LBs who were either in the A gaps or 4 yards off the LOS. = 5 men in the box. With 2 high safeties and a DB to the strength side - TE side of our formation.
They stuffed our runs most of the night from this base, that is not good
Watch the play where Toney was hurt and the one that followed, both stuffed from this set.
Even the Franks run on 4th down was stuffed. Not one play have I seen where they had more than 5 in the box.

Its obvious to most that we have issue on the OL and it needs to get fixed soon. UK may not have Terry Wilson at QB and has some issues on defense such as their entire secondary is new. We may just get by, but expect a close hard fought game. Then UT comes to the Swamp and eraserhead is on the red hot seat.
AU has its problems on offense...run game isn't sound yet even against Tulane. Baby Nix wasn't that good.
LsU beat a Texas team that lost 8 starters off its already porous defense from a year ago. Joey burrowing owl had a field day against a poor defense. So don't crown them as world beaters just yet.
Our Ol isn't an easy fix, one thing we are lacking is a solid TE blocker. Actually I think we would be better off with six OL and create run lanes.

Straws has no idea what's going on during a football game and him saying teams put 8 in the box against us was laughable.
They haven't done that since Muschamp would put 7 OL on the field with Mike G.
Pay him no mind

Everyone from Mullen, who was so pissed at the O-line that he was swearing on the radio broadcast to the analysts on WRUF to Lee McGriff to the TV analysts noted our O-line had serious run-block issues.
By my count, at least 10 people last night either on radio or TV flatly stated that our run blocking was not what it should have been against UT Martin and that if that continues, the inability to establish any kind of run threat is going to be a serious problem for our passing game against better teams.
I suppose we could all be wrong - all of them and all the posters here - or maybe, just maybe there is actually a problem with the O-line's ability to run-block that is independent of Franks. I know which explanation is more parsimonious, hence why I am also more worried about that than the QB situation right now.
If UT Martin can shut us down for a half running what they were running, it's going to be tough sledding against legit defenses regardless of who is QB.

I find it crazy our pass blocking has been more solid than run blocking. Usually it's the opposite for newer lines.
Really need to get it fixed quick though. We can't get into the chunk of the SEC schedule without being able to get blockers to the second level to break off a few big run plays a game.
Also our TE's are terrible at blocking. Gamble seems to purposefully find the wrong person to block

While they did not have many players in the Box. Every defender was with in 10 yards of the LOS.
UFs OL just have done a better job getting push. UTM 3 DLs do have legit size but they are not SEC level DLs.
That said they did a great job in finishing their tackles on short yardage situations.
