The claim is that SEC schools have a tougher schedule because they play better teams on average. No team in CFB plays ranked/good teams every week.

Possibly, we don't know yet. If we only judged Clemson on a&m or Syracuse last year we'd say the same thing. Also, Syracuse is barely a top 25 team and there Clemson's second biggest game.
