You gain the fan territory that you defeat. Hence LSU in south GA, MsSt in ULL area, Texas over La Tech.

I admit I'm not quite sure how they determine the counties that belong to a certain team from the beginning, but I know if it's by fan base, then UGA would be much larger than GSU's. They would be lucky to control a 3 county area around the school.
