Don’t leave a gun in your car.
There are tons of carry options that are much better than a Derringer. The Outdoor Board would be a better place to post this question. I recommend the Sig P938 (9mm) or Sig P238 (.380).
If you don’t have a lot of experience with guns, look at a compact S&W revolver in .38 Special.

Trigger pull will be the issue with the compact .38 for a female. Or anyone with arthritis.
