It's fine if you're doing quickness, agility drills, proper nutrition, etc., along with weight lifting.

Absolutely. But there's no way he put on 33 pounds in 6 months by doing all of this. He'd be more apt to weigh around 275 pounds.

What I don't like to see is when some of our OL and DL add bad weight (fat) that has no benefit and actually slows them down and hurts their stamina.

I expect him to burn off a good 10-15 pounds of that during this fall camp leading up to a steady weight of around 280.
Our DE's are expected to be run stoppers first with our Stand up LBers doing most of the pass rush..
When we do ask one of OLB to put there hands on the ground one of the DE's moves to DT.
I hated the weight Davis put on as we asked him to play inside more last year.
Hopefully we wont see a buggs playing on one leg and not getting even sub out.
Hence what Clemson o-limen said at all star game.
" we noticed that Bama never subs the D-linemen even when they are exhausted.
I understand the if they would have stopped more of the third downs.
But reality is they were not and we did not sub enough in any of the Clemson games.
So lets see what he weighs come the duke game.

Remember Q Williams came in as a DE, added weight and ended up becoming a monster at DT at around 300 lbs. Some guys can carry the weight and not lose quickness. Others like R. Davis, do lose explosiveness with weight. By all accounts, Justin is playing phenomenally well at 290 or whatever he is. I'm guessing August practice in the heat will get him down to 285 pretty quickly. That seems like a great weight to play at considering you have to take on 320 pound tackles.

Yeah, he didn't put on 33lbs that quickly without losing something in terms of explosiveness and endurance. I get that guys need to be strong and have a body that can take a beating, but a lightspeed 33lb gain probably isn't the best path there.

33 pounds in 6 months is nothing, particularly for a human being this size lifting hard and preparing for the season. I'm flabbergasted this thread even exists.
