The Navy and Marine Corps Medal is the highest award given for non combat related bravery. I have been unable to find specific documentation of Paul W. Bryant receiving it. Records for WW2 can be incomplete or difficult to find, though. The historical source I have cited earlier seems consistent with what was stated in this thread. I did find a Paul M. Bryant who received it in WW2 for a different event.

I think chief is saying… There is no medal called “The Navy Medal.” Do you mean the Navy Medal of Honor?? “The Navy Cross?”
