Georgia Bulldogs also have a tenuous 1942 claim, as nine ranking authorities listed in the NCAA record books rank the Bulldogs as #1. These are limited to very minor polls and services that retroactively released rankings many years later. Georgia did not officially claim 1942 as a championship year until well after their 1980 National Championship season.

This isn't an aspirational question. I don't understand why Florida fans say Georgia when they will almost certainly lose again, and they'll go on like nothing happened shortly afterwards.
A loss in a must win means a failed season. Heads will roll and/or fan bases will be upset for more than an hour or two after the clock hits zero.
UGA is not a must win for the Gators. It's a hope to win.
. . . and there's not much hope if we're being serious.

Nine? I didn't know it was that many. Sounds pretty solid. AP listed Ohio State as national champion. The problem is, AP named their champs before bowl season. Ohio St didn't play in a bowl. Georgia won the Rose Bowl.
