You answered your own question. Parents graduated from a school, the child becomes a fan. Athletics should not be an issue when picking a school for academics. I am sure there are many Auburn fans attending Alabama.

and that would be a good point if most Bama fans weren't bandwagoners with zero connection to the actual school
