Always great to fill in former HCs into these behind-the-scenes positions. As long as they can keep an understanding of the “former” part of former HC.

ummm...yeah. I was around Lawrence during the Gill era. I'm not sure about this one. The stuff that went on in that program during his tenure was rough. Maybe he's okay for a "Student-athlete deveolpment" role but nothing higher than that.

Exactly. He's a "name" coach in a consultant position. It's fine. Saban likes to do the same thing with his Island of Misfit Coaches and that seems to be going okay.

Partly because of him. We won the Orange Bowl less than 2 years before he was hired and he managed to go 3-9 and 2-10 with teams that still had some talent. And on the field was still somehow the least of his problems.
