It is actually a Native American sport played in the North but also played in the mid Atlantic states and the South,,,
Modern day lacrosse descends from and resembles games played by various Native American communities. These include games called dehuntshigwa'es in Onondaga ("men hit a rounded object"), da-nah-wah'uwsdi in Eastern Cherokee ("little war"), begadwe in Mohawk language ("little brother of war"), baaga`adowe in Ojibwe ("bump hips")[3] and kabucha in Choctaw.[4]
Lacrosse is one of the oldest team sports in North America. There is evidence that a version of lacrosse originated in what is now Canada as early as the 17th century. Native American lacrosse was played throughout modern Canada, but was most popular around the Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic seaboard, and American South.
My granddaughter plays in the DFW area of Texas. She had to make a choice for next year...continue to play basketball or continue to play lacrosse. She says she likes lacrosse more and will concentrate on that sport as she goes on to high school next year. Girls game is rough. No helmets (boys wear helmets) and they beat each other with sticks (anywhere except the head),

Hey ID 10 T - Lacrosse was invented by American Indians. Not Yankees!
Read up on it so you can actually speak with authority on a topic and be right for once. It has a very cool history.
