Big difference between a guaranteed lump sum signing bonus and 6 year contract that pays the entire amount after the 6 year term is completed

Is it, though? And even if there was a big difference, I'd rather take $1.17MM per year for 6 years than a $2MM lump sum payment which is around what he was offered last year IIRC. His lump sum signing bonus was worth ~2 years of his contract he got in Japan. I'd say he still wins regardless of how you choose to view it. And not to mention if someone drafted me in the 1st round out of high school and offered me 40% of my slot value, I'd tell them to kick rocks too.

I honestly don't know.I just heard on a local sports talk show that he had to complete the 6 years to get paid...could be wrong.

Wasn't the Braves offer closer to 2.4 million?
