Now I’m not going from you’re opinion of your favorite shows
For example one guy could say The Office is his favorite show

But in terms of overall significance? People consistently talking about it etc

Where does it rank?
I guess it’s a lot different now with social media streaming etc.
But older folks, what was office talk like for other shows? Sopranos? MASH? Star Trek?

I do know in my group of friends #1 conversation in the group chat is always sports, after that and during this time is Game of Thrones and after that nothing else is close.

But even this morning the news talking about the finale etc.

In my time I’ve never seen anything like it for a show

Like a lot of fads it will be remembered for being intensely popular in its day and a bit underwhelming when viewed later on.

It is a master class in "event" TV. It didn't matter whether the episode was good or not, though they did have some good ones, it mattered if you watched it because it was the thing to watch. Sort of like Paris Hilton being famous for being famous.

Now some dyed in the wool GoT fans will throw an absolute wobbler here thinking I'm mocking their favorite show. I'm not. It did what it did very well for the most part and HBO managed to give it that aura of must see TV.

It's up there. Significant cultural phenomenon whose influence will be felt for years to come.
