Someone else pointed out that they expect to lose 35% of their subscribers after this, but man they're going to really feel it when people don't give anyone a chance with the spinoffs.

That's probably not that far off from normal tho. That's what I've done for the last 4 season's, only keep a subscription for the duration of the seasons and immediately cancel when it's done. Most people I know do the same thing. I take full advantage of my subscription during that time though, enjoying all the good movies they have and trying to fit in rewatches of The Wire or The Soprano's or whatever.

I'll 100% give the spinoffs a chance though, if only because I enjoy the history and more so much. The animated videos on YouTube with the actual actors doing the narration are awesome.

They might literally be better off going with other writers and redoing the season if the actors are okay with it. This will not happen ever, for any reason, in any fashion, but if I was HBO I'd say:

I actually signed a petition on change.org Friday night to remake season 8 that was almost up to a million signatures

But you're right, it'll never happen because HBO doesn't have any real incentive to do that

I look forward to the season 8 movie adaptation X amount of years from now

(Which will be even worse somehow)

I truly think the damage will come from the spinoffs. Of course, there will be people like you and I who just want GoT content no matter what, but I can already see people saying they're really uninterested in certain plot lines. Anything to do with the Night King is probably killed until Martin produces a book or is slated to actually work (full time) on the show.

The others, I think will be forgiven to some extent as long as d&d are no where near production. I still can't believe that Disney Star Wars has somehow managed to get the three most hated contemporary show writers/runners.

Although the good news is that I've heard the source material is completely done for the Star Wars movies, so d&d will be doing what they do best: adapting other people's material.

Forbes just wrote an article and HBO wasn't happy with their decision whatsoever. Everybody was dedicated to making this show go on for a very long time. Even most of the actors -- none of them really have a ton of things coming up outside of Heady who, apparently wasn't going to get much to do these last seasons lol.

However, if HBO was willing to extend the series for a very long time, there is an infinitesimal chance, the smallest you can imagine that they might at least test the waters to see where the actors and everyone else is with d&d gone. It's so small that it's not even worth getting anyone's hopes up.

I'm just saying: If GoT is as lucrative as HBO makes it out to be and they were willing to dedicate the next 16 years to the show, there's a small chance that they'll reboot if it gets enough attention (it's literally two or three months of extra subscriptions for several months).
