honestly, I love Cersei
She's diabolical and cast as the villain in the show, but I honestly see her as a very sympathetic character, too. She's suffered bereavement and loss, and in the context of her perspective, done what she felt she had to do to ensure her hold on what she believes is hers. Maybe she derives too much pleasure from it at times, but in this fricked up show universe, her most sordid actions aren't exactly without peer.
If this whole deal is about playing the game of thrones with the intention of winning, she's played her cards correctly.

Also, talking about stupid frick Lyanna, here's a good representation I saw:
"I'm not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere already, but the reason I liked Lyanna Mormont in the first place was that she was a wise little child.
She was seen listening to her advisors, realising that she, as a child, needed to learn a lot from her elders. In contrast to Joffrey, Robin Arryn and the other child leaders, she seemed wise.
Standing up to Jon when he came back might have been brave but was it wise? Going out onto the field of battle when you're actually a little girl and possibly the last person of your house, is that wise??
She went from being a smart leader who knew her weaknesses (her youth and small stature) to an idiot child who wouldn't listen to reason.
Her death was lucky, it wasn't clever. She might be brave but in the end she wasn't clever or wise."
But yeah, she's a little badass. I never liked the stupid little count, but hey apparently she was right up the "correct GOT arc" alley.
frick outta here

I wouldn't even necessarily call her a villain myself (but understand for the roles of the show that she must be cast in that light) and agree with you: She has been doing what she needs to in order to survive.
She has also had to sacrifice her dignity and in many respects, her loved ones. At some degree I don't think she's heartless, but watching your children kind of get picked off one by one will make anyone shift their intentions.
I'm hoping she doesn't go down the mustache twirling evil to for the sake of being evil road in these last few episodes, but I also hope that she has a chance at redemption.
