There's several people that die out there along the Buffalo each year. Someone was telling me just yesterday that some family went out to the Grand Canyon and someone fell off and died. It seems to me a lot of times this happens because people get close to the edge and try and take pictures. Lesson to the wise, looking through a viewfinder on the edge of a cliff will cause vertigo. Perfectly sober people get up there and just fall off.
This x100.
The wife and I hiked to the Crag a couple of years ago. I kind of always thought people had to be stupid or acting stupid to fall off of that thing....that was before I got out there.
The day we went it was very windy, and you are so high up that when you look down and see the trees blowing in the wind it looks EXACTLY like the ground is swaying beneath you. For anyone that has ever had vertigo, you know exactly what I am talking about. Its like everything around you is spinning. I can easily see how people get vertigo and fall off these things.
One quick look down and I never got close to the edge again. No way. That's a looooong way down. Feel for that poor girl and her family. She was gorgeous.

That it is. When I heard about the person falling off Whitaker's Point whoever it was told me "that's over 100 feet down!"
More like 300 feet. And even if you were to survive the initial fall it's highly unlikely you'd survive long enough to be airlifted out to a hospital. I imagine hauling someone out of there would take several hours.
