Another incident at Hawksbill

This comes a week after a college girl fell and died. I imagine a rope goes up soon, although that probably won’t keep people from going on it.

Second incident wasn't at Hawksbill. It was at Mule Tails Falls. Obviously still tragic. Prayers for the boy and his family. Just a PSA to anyone going into the Ozark or Ouachita mountains: Those scenic overlooks are all massive cliffs. If you fall off you will at minimum be maimed and more than likely die. Respect Nature and don't try to do risky things near the edge. It's not worth it.

Without giving away any details from identity, my first cousin died falling off Hawksbill several years ago. He was 19 and had just finished his first semester at UAFS. Still hurts, thinking about it

There are gigantic outlooks everywhere without ropes or barriers.
Like anything, people need to be mindful of their surroundings and most of all, steer clear of these places when you choose to drink or take any kind of substance.

I was specifically talking about the crag, that's where most of the accidents happen. the woman that died last week, twisted her ankle on a rock and her momentum caused her to fall. wasn't under the influence or acting a fool.

There's several people that die out there along the Buffalo each year. Someone was telling me just yesterday that some family went out to the Grand Canyon and someone fell off and died. It seems to me a lot of times this happens because people get close to the edge and try and take pictures.
Lesson to the wise, looking through a viewfinder on the edge of a cliff will cause vertigo. Perfectly sober people get up there and just fall off.

I'm too scared of heights for this to ever happen to me.

I never thought I was afraid of heights until I went to the Grand Canyon a few years ago. I was taking selfies from the opposite side of the sidewalk so I wouldn’t even close to the edge because that drop was so enormous.

With my inner ear problem I can have a vertigo attack on perfectly flat terrain. Scenic views from a cliff are my arch nemesis.

I will make a note of that. I've had to walk out of movies that triggered my vertigo in the past.
Oddly enough the one I reacted to the strongest was, of all things, the Meg Ryan erotic thriller "In The Cut". They used shaky hand cam filming for everything in that movie and after ten minutes I was so sick it was leave the theater or spend the movie throwing up into my popcorn box.

I hate outdoor heights (fine in an airplane or tall building), I don’t have vertigo but Free Solo made my palms sweat.

No thanks on the Free Solo stuff. The closest thing I ever did to that was a trail we hiked out on Oahu called Stairway to Heaven. It was an old radar station on top of one of the mountain ranges out there. They built stairs with rails going up it so it wasn't even super dangerous but I'll just say that I didn't look over the edge much at all. Mostly just look at the back of the person right in front of you. The back of their feet that is. I've never even really been afraid of heights, but when you get way up there it's hard not to be.
