I agree BoarEd. The grass isn't always greener on the other side.

It's easy to fire a coach. I don't trust our administration to make a great hire.

think it's harder to succeed in basketball than it is football. Reason being is that there are like 3x the number of teams that you have to compete with. And unlike football, the Gonzaga's of the world can compete with the Dukes and North Carolina's.

The fact that a team like Gonzaga can compete shows its much easier in BB. You just refuted your own point.

Basketball is played year long.

It's easier for football than basketball.

What?! How so? There are only so many top coaches available. There are over 300 teams in division one basketball.

Apparently Arkansas can't even steal a coach from frickin Wichita State. In football we would have no trouble hiring a coach from Wichita State.

It is much harder in basketball by sheer numbers. You're high, man.

I don't either, Pio. You know I'm as big a Mike Anderson fan as you're likely to find, but I think it may be best to cut ties. I don't like the fact that he threw shade at some of his own players. That's out of character for him, and considering some of the other rumors floating about, I think he has lost his locker room.

I hate it that this is happening, but this can't be happening at this point in his tenure. The writing is on the wall. All that remains to be seen is how it all goes down I think.

Here's the thing though, people should probably be prepared for things to get ugly if they do decide to pull the trigger. What's gonna happen is Nolan is gonna end up telling them to shove their court up their arse and it will be horribly bad optics because it will play out on national television.

Which will hamstring our ability to hire someone new. Just like it did before.

There's a very real chance Arkansas falls back to the cellar for the next 20+ years if they frick this up.

In football Wichita State isn't rivaling how much we pay our head coaches with their own salaries. Greg Marshall is making 3 million a year. It is much cheaper to invest into basketball than it is in football, that's why these smaller programs do it.

None of this matters to the point. Arkansas can't go hire Gregg Marshall from Wichita State. No matter how you say it the result is the same. It is harder to compete with 300 teams than it is with 100 teams.

Look my friends, yes... even Boared…..

I have had a terrible few weeks, and am now deliberately recouping.

But Mike Anderson is as class act as they come. Have been around MA personally several times. The last time we were at a dinner and a Golf tourney following. I had to leave town for a preplanned activity. He left the greens to come say bye prior to my family and I leaving town. Offered to pray for us. Dude is incredibly awesome as a human being. Heads and tails above most in our society. It hurts to say it. Boar, all of the others I have flamed at times. I hate, HATE that he hasn't had the success I wish for him. He deserves absolutely success. But.. damnit. He hasn't. It is time to move on. I hope he gets a job in the foundation, in the AD and retires a happy, successful man. Again, one more DAMNIT!

He can change my mind by winning this NIT Tournament. Anything less than a trophy in the case and I think it's time for him to go.

I hate it for him too. I think he's an awesome coach and an awesome individual. But if he's being honest with himself he knows damn good and well he isn't doing a good enough job.

I want to see that fire in his belly like Nolan had. I think if he could carry himself with a greater sense of urgency he can coach a team all the way to the top. We saw him do it at Missouri.

But so far, he just doesn't have it. I think he's too comfortable here.

ETA: Even though I don't like you much, I'm sorry to hear you're having a rough go of it, Rev. I'll see if I can work some more voodoo energy to send your way.

I will give credit where credit is due. I saw more coaching from him last night than I have in a while.

That brings me to question whether or not there was some issues in the locker room with Gafford.

More coaching last night ? I don't know about that. Providence didn't have the jimmy's or the joes... I am redoing my bracket after last nights game. If that team won a single game in the Big East it must be really really bad. They didn't hit their free throws. Didn't hit their shots at all. And they were the slowest thing I've seen since watching Joe Kleine run the floor !!! Coaching ? Whatever.

So when we do bad it's coaching and when we do well it's players... Gotcha

No sometimes we win bc the coaching. But rarely. Most of the games we win its bc we have more talent. What adjustments did Mike have to make to beat Providence ? All you have to do is watch the game. We had shooters, they didn't. We were at least a half a step faster than they were on both sides of the floor. Thats NOT coaching. Sure there are games where a team just gets hot and no coaching in the world makes a difference. Part of the sport. All you have to do is watch the game. Are we in it bc a coach is making adjustments ? Or out of it completely bc he keeps subbing out the hot hand after only 5 minutes on the floor !!! Mike is a mediocre coach.

Pretty disappointed watching Musselman's senior laden team lay a total egg and look lethargic as hell in the process of losing in the first round to a very meh UF team.

Ugh. That's all well and good or whatever, but when this same team was struggling at the free throw line earlier in the year this same contingency of anti-Mike guys were insisting the poor performance at the line was a sign of bad coaching. That we just didn't practice free throws.

Mike isn't a mediocre coach. Not by any stretch. He took Missouri to the Elite Eight and a brief #1 ranking. That isn't mediocre.

I'm all for moving on from Mike Anderson whenever the powers that be determine its time to do so, but I do value honesty.

I have no idea what other posters were saying. Mike would be a much better coach if he didn't sub people out just as they get hot AND if he didn't insist on all the stupid double teams that constantly leave guys open. Mike had a lot of talent at Mizzou. And without a doubt he's had a lot of talent since he's been here and he's squandered it. Way too many early season and early conference losses bc his sub patterns and his devotion to double teaming. We are NOT tough at all in the half court. Thats why Florida beat us twice this year and why we were bounced out of the tourney early last year. Thats coaching. You have to teach tough hard nosed half court defense and let your team practice against it. We would do really well with a guy like Beard. Mike refuses to adjust.
