re: Alabama fan Harvey Updyke is mentally deranged

I worked in the landscaping department when I was in school at AU in early 2000s. The trees were already dying back then but they expected another 30 years or so out of the one closest to toomers corner. There were two incidents that all but killed the main Oak...

1. Bama fan drove his truck into the tree after '97 Iron Bowl which damaged the tree, it also caught on fire. If I remember it killed approx 60% of the tree and would have ultimately killed the tree.

2.Bama fan set both trees on fire after 2001 Iron Bowl

3.Updyke just finished the job

*after the first two incidents the trees were 40% and 75% damaged. We were always told by the horticulturalists that the toilet paper only had minimal effect on the trees.
