There is no gravel pit on Avery Salvage yard. There is no gravel in the area where the Rav4 was planted on Avery Salvage Yard property. Gravel is in two quarries South of Avery Salvage Yard.
The first report from Sheriff Peterson was that the Rav4 was found in a gravel pit. At some point the Rav4 was planted on Avery Salvage Yard. Steven Avery was talking about were the Rav4 was "found" after it had been moved, possibly from the quarry.

You are saying that a reporter couldn't have mixed up some words in a frenzy to make deadline? Contrary to what you've seen on TV and in movies, newspaper reporters don't spend days or even weeks working on a story and checking their facts. They are actually grinding out a dozen a day while sucking down shite coffee and chain smoking. Then their editors chop it all up to make it fit exactly in the alotted inches of the physical paper. Then someone totally different writes the headline. The simple fact the word "gravel" made it into the story is meaningless, especially in the face of the fact Avery referred to "the pit" as part of his own property in the same story, toward the end.
