Reasons to be hopeful, re: Mizzou hoops:

1. Javon Pickett -- seems he's gaining more confidence with each game. Gesit-ish play, if you will.

2. Mark Smith -- when he's right, he's right.

3. JT -- we know the updisde and the issues.

4. Xavier Pinson -- Any doubt he's going to be the field general next year?

5. Torrence Watson -- ceiling is high.

6. Suggs -- seems to be raising his profile and with continued improvement could provide senior leadership next year (sunshine may be getting to me).

7. Santos -- Chievous' record won't be in jeopardy, but he is a banger.

8. Dru Smith -- We'd all agree some offensive help would be greatly appreciated.

9. Jontay -- His return next year will solidify the 4 position (wait...my Blood Sunshine Content just exceeded .25 -- call for help).

TL/DR -- we have pieces that will only grow shinier next season. We need a couple more. Remaining optimistic and hoping to just see growth in returners the rest of the year.

we have pieces

It's been sooooooooo long since Mizzou BB had enough pieces I'm not sure what it's supposed to look like. While I'm hopeful, Bass's assertion that we need someone on the staff that understands offense is dead on bc we need something other than 25 3s a night bc some nights you'll only hit 3 of them.

The scheme of the offense isn’t bad, just need to upgrade the talent in it.

It got a lot better yesterday when Cuonzo ditched the non shooting 4, and played a 4 guard set around Tilmon.
It creates mismatches, though Mizzou doesn’t have the personnel to capitalize.

I really think Jackson is ready from day 1

Pinson
Mark smith
Dru Smith
Jackson
Tilmon

Pickett
Watson
Reed

That's a solid starting four.

God forbid Porter comes back, this is a 2nd weekend team.

Still need another 4

Before Smith rolled his ankle he was the SEC's #1 3 point shooter.

well he can't hit shite now, and his shot selection is shitty. He also likes to drive into the trees and get the ball shoved down his throat. Kind of like Geist.

Mark rarely drives. Pickett is the one doing that. He did have a really nice dump off to Tilmon for a big dunk late in the game.

I saw Mark drive a couple of times (only) and eat the ball. That was a nice play by Pickett. He gonna be good

Mark is an excellent player, and we're also asking him to do more than he needs or should. Mark is easily one of fav young guys. Id say him and pinson for me(tilmon doesnt count since we've gotten two full season from him)

Mark Smith is a guy who needs others to create offense for him, but he can really shoot the ball. He’s a complimentary piece, but a valuable one if he’s surrounded by the right guys

I agree with that. If he’s got Pinson, Dru, Pickett and McKinney creating, he can be like Kassius was. And we don’t need more than that.

I don’t know that McKinney has the handles to be a creator early in his college career.

There’s no doubting his athleticism, but he will have to put in work to tighten up his ballhandling

The key is getting them all to stay and not leave after a year like they did under KA. Not that KA would have taken Mizzou to the tourney but he would have had double digit wins if he didn't lose his best players every year. Some his fault. Some not.

There is definitely a possibility for McKinney to carve out a role. He’s immediately the best athlete we have at guard. He can easily be the best defender if he wants to be.

There is going to be some competition at these spots next year

Pinson
D Smith
M Smith
Pickett
Suggs
Watson
McKinney

All those guys can’t play. Surprised me that they offered a JUCO guard today.

Suggs, Watson and Pickett can all play the 2 or 3 (not that we really have those positions with Cuonzo ball). Suggs could probably play some 4 defensively.

By trying to add McNeil Cuonzo looks to be adding players for really good teams for the 20-21 and 21-22 seasons.

It would be more of a high scoring team offense with 3 point shooting from many different players.

I don’t think Jontay comes back, but if he does Cuonzo will have the backcourt to go along with him and Tilmon to be a good team next year.
