Alabama DT commit Jah-Marien Latham wants to visit other schools as well

quote:

So far, he’s enjoying the recruiting process. “I love it,” he said. “Sometimes, it gets kind of stressful when you have calls coming in every night from different coaches, but I just try to embrace it.” Though he has committed to Alabama, he said he would like to visit some other top schools including Auburn, Georgia, Clemson, Florida and Tennessee. “I just want to see what is out there, see what some other schools have to offer,” he said.

quote:

The 247 composite rankings currently list Latham as the No. 19 prospect in the state’s 2020 class. He is the 38th-ranked defensive tackle in the state.

Like all kids, he doesn't seem to understand words like Commit. And every year, CNS mentions the "You Shop, We Shop" and with the idea that he is the 38th DT in Alabama doesn't seem to mean much to him either. If I was the 38th DT in the state and Alabama had allowed me to commit, I would be shutting it down and concentrating on holding my spot.

Yes, I definitely see your point and some of them are never really committed at all...like Bogle. Easiest thing to do is change the terminology from committed to something else.

But I see it a bit different having been on his end of the game. He knows the staff is still recruiting others players at his position so he secured a spot in Bama's but did he?

How many times have we seen Saban (and other coaches too) take a commitment early but squeeze them out of the class later on when higher rated players want in. Players also need a back-up plan too.

Commit and take all your visits to be 100% certain of the decision...I'd expect nothing less from anyone. But from time to time they shut it down after committing but it's not realistic.

Kinda like ole Ronnie Reagan used to say, Trust but verify. I see the players doing the same, Trust the decision but verify it.

Meh. I’d imagine this is handled well. His coach is Mike Williams. He played for Saban at Alabama.
