I wish I hadn't read this thread. Now I'm about to go on a buying spree on Amazon to pick up all these great tunes again.

I miss the 80s darn it.

I love the music that came out of the 80s. There is a lot of good rock and roll that came out of that decade as well as the best pop music of any decade, IMO.

I tend to gravitate to the pop stuff though because it is just so dang optimistic sounding. It's like once the "cold war" ended everything became happy go lucky. Then the 90s rolled around and we were all jaded all of a sudden with music like Nirvana and Alice in Chains. (Which all that stuff is great too, don't get me wrong)

If I ever want to just FEEL GOOD, I'll listen to 80s music.

I sometimes wish I was my age now during that time. (never alive for the 80s)

I'd be making a lot more money, and my attitude would correlate more with people in the industry back then than now.

I miss optimistic music about having a good time. Even the heavy metal from the 80s tended to center around getting drunk, having wild sex, and enjoying life.

Modern music tends to either be rap, which I'm not a fan of, or depressing stuff about how miserable the singer is. If want to be depressed I'll go read Politico.

I came of age in the 80's, and while I don't mind some of the pop stuff for the nostalgia, the "alternative" stuff from the 80's is one of my favorite genres of music. A lot of that alternative stuff had mainstream crossover appeal though, so the lines are often blurred. Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel is my favorite 80's song and it fits that bill. That song was HUGE on mainstream radio summer of 86.

That alternative stuff still holds up today, while the hair metal that took it over in the latter part of the decade is just putrid today, though I still listen to it some for nostalgia. It's really not good music though.

Tesla was/is killer IMO. The 80s had plenty of good music in all genres. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Let's go ahead and end this thread. I'm about to post a link to the best song ever created in the 80's and, after that, there won't be any need to continue.

This guy swept the world with his song and it is widely regarded as the #1 song ever created in any time period and any genre.

Simply The Best
