Gretzky was great, but honestly no one cares and barely hear that name anymore.

Because no one will touch him in terms of greatness at that sport
And espn doesn’t have hockey so you don’t hear them consistently talk about it

The closest guys to him in this day are Crosby and Ovechkin. (And I say closest and they are still not close)
Crosby doesn’t score enough and even ovechkins best ever is not on the same level as Wayne

did the op mention the athlete's twitter followers or facebook likes? No, he said best player ever, and gretzky absolutely deserves in the conversation. He is so ridiculously far ahead of anyone else that might be considered the 2nd best hockey player it's almost unfathomable. Here's something to put it in perspective...if you took away every goal gretzky ever scored in his career, he would STILL be the nhl' all-time leading point scorer. In other words, he has more career assists than anyone else that has played has goals and assists combined.
