Yes he's wrong. Just because it never happened in the past, doesn't mean that it isn't the smart thing to do. A few days off because of extreme cold really isn't a big deal.

I agree with maybe some universities not needing to be closed. Its only like -8 with wind chill in Kentucky right now. Not a big deal to walk to a campus if youre close by.
But if its like -30 out and youre gonna get frost bite if youre out too long with exposed skin, not a good idea.
Big factor Im sure though is wanting to keep kids waiting on the bus from getting too cold and I agree with not making them stand out there waiting

I kind of agree when the temps are below 0. However, I do have a problem with schools canceling due to a forecast of 4" of snow.
In my kid's district this past Sunday, they announced that evening that school was canceled for Monday. There was 3-4" of snow in the forecast for Monday (during the day). So wake up the next morning and wait for it to start falling. The first flakes in my area did not fall until 10:30am.
That is the definition of a pussified school closure.
So they had Monday off and had school yesterday. They canceled today and Thursday due to the cold, and they announced they would have a decision about Friday by 9:00pm Thursday.

I mean when I was in school we had situations where it got so hot, the AC broke and they canceled school. This was in the 90s-2000s

there was one day in 4th grade when there was a storm coming in so, they sent us home early. They still did half days then so it was kinda like that.

The schools are worried about liability first, and student safety second, even if they are immune (public schools, at least) for almost any liability that might occur.
Either way, I agree with the governor. We are raising a generation of pussies. I can’t recall getting hardly any days off for snow or other weather in the 1980’s or early 1990’s. I do remember driving to school on ice and in snow when I was in my teens.

I blame all the soy boy SJWs on the lack of asbestos in our country these days. The Boomers all turned out just fine! Russia, China, and Kazakhstan still use and produce asbestos and look at them! Those are countries where men are still men.

Yeah people in the south do not get much opportunity to drive in it so I understand that.
I have more a problem with them canceling based on a forecast when it's not supposed to start until mid morning. The forecasted 4" would accumulate over the course of the day and late afternoon/evening. Now, if we woke up and there was 4 inches on the road in the morning I would have no issue with that.

I grew up in the 80's and we definitely got out of school for snow/ice at least once a school year. We were out for almost a week for an ice storm around 82 or 83. Whole town was without power for a couple of days.

I think now it's because they'd rather be safe than sorry.
