Be thankful it's only squirrels.
I've caught at least 3 large grey rat snakes in my house over the years, and 1 pretty small one. One of them was in my wife's china cabinet. I just caught it by the tail like Steve Irwin...God rest his soul...and pulled it out. No aggressiveness or anything. Just released it in the woods.
Wherever you find rodents, you'll find these snakes. And they will find a way in, no matter what. Moth balls will stop that, but the scent tends to permeate the house.

I toss moth balls around the house, barn, and sheds every spring. Keeps the rattlesnakes and copperheads away from the buildings. I usually kill 3 or 4 rattlers and a copperhead or 2 around the farm every year.
