He's made the tournament as a 5, 7, and 8 so you're a little off. He's also given us our best seasons since the 90s, so it's not that hard to understand why people are hesitant to call for his head. Don't want to make the wrong hire and then go through another decade of being terrible. We could strike gold and get a coach that takes us back to the final 4, or we could get another Pelphrey. It all comes down to taking that risk and I don't think we should do it just yet.

This is exactly correct. In every facet.

That's the best explanation any MA fan has given so far. I can see the point but at the same time, it's basketball and having so few players to recruit and develop compared to football, it shouldn't take 8 years to see substantial improvement. Look at how often previous nobodies make deep runs in the tournament. Way, way more often than in football. We've peaked under Mike in all likelihood.

And how can you not see the underperformance every frickin year from Mike? Blatantly obvious, terrible coaching on a regular basis. We don't run offensive plays. We make stupid decisions regularly. We struggle with fundamentals, including flipping free throws. Poor player development. Play up to potential at times and win games we shouldn't, followed immediately by shitting the bed against West Alabama Intermediate U.

There's a ton of coaches that could've done way better with the talent we've had the last 8 years. And probably recruited more talent, too.
