When Texas tried to leave the SWC and go to the SEC without aggie many years ago, aggie ran to the state legislature and got it blocked. So frick all of this TEXAS is scared shite. That’s why Dodds did what he did.

Complete bull shite. Texas never tried to leave for the SEC. There was some AD level talk about a possible move in the 80s, but the decision makers in Austin (president and regents) always had their eyes on the west coast. The only time the legislature got involved was in the 90s when both A&M and Texas were leaving the SWC (a move engineered by Deloss Dodds, for what it's worth)--that's when we got forced to take Tech and Baylor along for the ride.

Wrong as always.. like the pawn would ever know what really happened.

"The one that made the most sense was Texas," Schiller said. "I spent some time with DeLoss Dodds (the Texas athletic director) and he really wanted to join the conference." Done deal. Everything agreed to but the name on the dotted line. Then, it all came apart. "The state legislature (in Texas) somehow got wind of it through Texas A&M and said we had to bring in both schools or we couldn't take Texas," Schiller said. The SEC didn't want A&M. Ultimately, the two Texas schools would leave the Southwest Conference and join the Big 12.

From 1986-89, Schiller was the commissioner of the SEC
