We lost because one of our starters averaging 11 points a game didn't score a point. The coach was blamed for the loss.
You can blame a coach for a loss for more than the performance of a player. If the scheme, adjustments, or preparation of the team appeared to be lacking, of course people are going to blame the coach. It only doesn't make sense if everyone agrees that the game was lost on one play then blame the coach anyway.

You two are approaching this so narrow-mindedly in order to keep from having the point you're trying to make crumble.

Players not executing isn't a valid point to make? If you're interviewing a player post-game and he says they lost because they didn't execute, are you going to disagree with him and say he's wrong, that the coach is actually to blame instead?
