How do you know he was running the zone read instead of a designed qb run?

Don’t know but some of his runs ( like the one that went for a safety) had an option available and he didn’t read it.
Plus we’ve seen Malzahn crawl his arse. We could see Malzahn say “How’s that happen!” to Willis after the play. After the game Malzahn called it a greedy play.

Because no one ever even attempted to block the DE.
