They're projected and so are the stars and such in the night sky. We're actually in the Earth's mantle. Rain is produced by a giant sprinkler system. Why are we here instead of on the surface? Dinosaurs.
In all seriousness, I really don't get the argument that the sky is projected. Its much more likely that the earth is hollow and the government has begun pushing the flat earth meme onto people again so that they don't find out what theyre doing down there

It's more likely to me that we live in a simulated life like a video game, but I don't think our government/people are projecting what we see. - if that makes sense.
