On the A&M documentary series "The Pulse" it clearly shows the other angle, in which Williams is screaming, "That's bullshite!" at the ref, which prompts the hat toss.

Umpires are the worst...as they can actually eject someone if they don't like what they're saying, including fans, the organist, the PA announcer, etc.

The PI call was actually bullshite. But don’t talk back to the refs. Let the coaches do that. Either way, he’s a damn good player. Everyone makes mistakes.

Don’t blame him. It was. He was probably exhausted and knows he shouldn’t have said anything, but it happens and the ref is even shittier for penalizing him for it.
