I know its hypothetical but if you could choose one, which would it be?

Option 1: An embarrassing defeat of Alabama (ala 2013) that guarantees they lose a playoff spot but you're stuck with Gus for 2 more years.

Or

Option 2: An embarrassing defeat of Auburn similar to 2012 style domination but comes with the guarantee that Gus would be fired and a top notch coach is coming in who can consistently compete for not only the sec but also a playoff spot?

I guess what I'm asking is: Does anyone think Gus is worth keeping if that meant cashing in another iron bowl victory?

nobody in their right mind would pass up this option. It's not like they are strangers to losing to bama, what's another loss if this is the reward that comes with it

I know you guys think a bit much of yourselves, but if this was guaranteed, this is the only answer you will see.

Many bama fans will tell you Auburn fans would do the contrary, but thats typical for bf's

Admit it. Rabern would probably have to do some soul searching to come to an answer.

Everyone in CFB would take option 2. The hypothetical should end if it meant Gus would be fired. Most of my AU friends have already said they want Gus gone regardless of how he finishes.

You're right. Saban had been a major disaster at Alabama and I secretly long for the Shula years....I was way out of line insinuating that it was even possible.

Who is this mythical top-notch coach that is going to come in and save the day?

Well, I did say it was all hypothetical.

Not an Aubie, but I think Gus is fired. No buyout will stop Auburn. They have plenty of alumni who can come up with the money. It may cause them pause because it will be tough to get a top notch coach to coach in the same state as Saban in dynasty mode, but they can land an up and comer(Bill Clark?), or Mike Leach?, who is a proven winner would probably be crazy enough to do it. Anyway, in my opinion Gus is gone win or lose vs Bama. No way Auburn tolerates this level of incompetence from their football coach.

I was coming in here to say I'd never outright root for Auburn to lose but if we're playing pure fantasy then obviously

I just don't see him as our coach 2 years from now. If that's the case you are better pulling the plug now.

Zero chance he's gone if we beat you or even play competitively, take it to the bank

It's if we get steamrolled that all bets are off. In reality, a solid win for Alabama that isn't to the level of a true beatdown (see: UGA game) won't get Gus fired. It'll have to be a really, really bad loss.

Unless, of course, it's combined with an embarrassing showing against Liberty. It's amazing to watch the emotional up and downs of this, and even our conservative beat writers acknowledge that an emotional backlash could play a roll. I don't think we'll lose to Liberty, obviously, but if it's a pathetic outing and it carries into a pretty bad-but-not-historically-bad Iron Bowl loss, that could still put some wheels in motion IMO.

In reality zero chance AU wins, but even if they did, Gus is fired. AU is the worst coached team in the conference by far and I don't think they will tolerate another season of it.

I mean, I agree we won't win. But what you're saying is incorrect.

If Auburn even stays in the game Gus survives with ease.

Oh I know what you are saying, I just disagree. I think AU has already decided to fire him.

Two years? Who the frick do you think we are? We fired Tubs the seaso afte 6 straight year of beating Bama and Chizik two seasons after the NC. A win this year gets him to the Bowl Game.
