The year 9,999 to us won't be the year 9,999 to them. No way we'll still be following a timeline based on the birth of Jesus Christ by then. I would guess that will be restructured to a global standard within the next 100 years
You're right. By the time it's year 9999 AD the scientists will probably have pinpointed when Jesus is coming back and be counting down so it'll be year like -351 and they'll be counting down kinda like how the Romans and Greeks were doing in the BC era.

You know, it’s kinda funny you brought this up. I’m from the year 2518. Had I known there were transgender coaches in the SEC, I would have never come back in time. Warning to Bama fans. Nick comes out of the closet next year.
Anybody ever dated Carolina Girl ?
If so.........we’ll. Lololololol.

But realistically I’d like to go back to 1970 Columbia SC.
Millennials aren’t a thought yet, soy boys ain’t even a thing, no skinny jeans, Jordan/Nike sneakers and men treated football like war.
I was getting vag left and right, drinking whiskey till 4 am, and doing it all over again.

So if you went back what could you really teach anyone? They live in their environment and obviously are successful. Unless you are an engineer and can make things they cannot with whatever you brought, then what?

The arrow of time is uni-directional so only travel to the future is possible. 500 years in to the future would be adequate.
By then, A.I. will have become super intelligent and embarked into the Universe. Hopefully they left the capability for others to transition to their advanced state and to follow them.

There is no past, no future. Even Now, is gone. All time , so called past and future never was or will be. Your memories of your past are just
Subconscious passing thoughts. So your question does not compute.

Backwards.
I would prefer forwards, but there is no guarantee humanity will exist in 500 years. Yellowstone could erupt, meteor strike, or just the global warming trajectory could make us a new Venus in the future. Hell, within 80 years much of the southeastern United states is not even expected to be habitable and much of Florida will be underwater.

Backwards to the Roman era and I’d bring books like Principia and engineering books.
Yeah, I’m not willing to risk nuclear Holocaust going that far forward. And yeah, I’d strap on like 100 pounds worth of books on multiple equations, knowledge, and also pack a laptop with even more information which I could gain once I manage to create electricity and go back to the Roman Republic after Hannibal. shite, I could get to modern society within a century.

I don't know either, something Mr. Roboto did in that Styx song.
I believe 500 years ahead will be soulless and incredibly dull.

Question ... would we be subject to the life expectancy of the time period to which we jump OR would we be subject to the life expectancy from which we came?
I need to know that before answering the question.

Good question, let's say the time to which you're going.

Forward without question. Life really isn't worth living without modern conveniences at this point.
