It was obvious how handcuffed the offense is with Feleipe. He is not a natural runner (which we already knew) and obviously, the threat of the QB run is what Mullen wants in his offense.
The thing is, a quarterback who can’t run can still be successful because Mullen is a good coach. He gave Franks plenty of opportunities yesterday to make throws and help the offense be efficient and make big plays. When you can’t run, you HAVE to be able to make these plays. He didn’t do it on a consistent enough basis. In fact, his inconsistency is why we lost. You can’t miss open throws on flea flickers that you’ve ran in practice a thousand times, you can’t ruin drives with terrible interceptions, you can’t fumble the ball on your own goal line. When you handcuff the coach because of your lack of natural running ability, you have to be able to do with your arm what the coach asks you to. Franks couldn’t, and that’s directly why we lost.
I love what Mullen is building. The playcalling is incredible, just needs to be better executed. I think we will see execution improve immensely and much more consistently once we see Emory Jones, Jalon Jones, and Anthony Richardson take over. It’s obvious, from my nosed perspective, that we have a coach that is as creative and has as good a feel for playcalling as anybody in the country. I think he’s getting more out of Franks than any coach in the country could. Franks had done what was asked of him for the most part this season. He didn’t yesterday, and it cost us the game. I think he can certainly win us the next four games and execute what the coaches ask of him against defenses that aren’t as good as UGA, but we will be limited overall until we get a quarterback that fits what Mullen is asking of Franks.

I want to first say thank you because you were the only cordial person that I had debated regarding this entire topic. You never said "NARF SCRAWS TRASK DIDN'T START" or anything like that. Although, you did accuse me of having a vendetta but I think at this point it's obvious I was just worried about our future at Quarterback.
I'm very hotheaded over this, because I'm unusually good at seeing which Quarterbacks will pan out and which won't, and it kind of rubs me the wrong way because even when I am absolutely correct people still say chide things like "well why don't you write to Mullen".
I think, in the end, it's a matter of time -- which is what I had said all along. My issue isn't that Franks cannot become an elite Quarterback, my issue is that the amount of time he needs to become one is more than Florida can offer. This isn't a place to 'learn on the job', especially when you've been on the job for so long.
He hasn't ran out of bounds, but for everything he's done right so far he seems to have developed some otherwise weird habits. The first I've noticed is that he goes for a jump every time there's contact, often to comically ineffective results. And it's not just one game, it's multiple games.
That being said:
Any person who thinks we're going in the wrong direction is an absolute fricking moron. The playcalling was almost pitch perfect, and you could see that Kirby was on his heels the entire game -- we were running at will, there were open plays, and we just failed to convert them.
Also, this isn't negativity, at some point everyone needs to take a hard look at a player and say: Do I like him because he's on my team, or do I actually think he's good? (This is in NO way connected to you, atl). Franks has been given every single thing he's needed to succeed -- a clean slate, a really good Quarterback developer, a solid running game, brilliant pass protection and outstanding receivers.
When you can't succeed with all of those pieces around you, the problem is you, not the team.

I was definitely the Color Guard for the anti-Franks movement, so I was the one that got the most attention for it but yes, you were almost the only other person who was like: What is it that people are seeing?
I think it's obvious now that people were too emotionally connected to him succeeding, and I think it's very obvious that this blocked them from seeing the reality.
Even with photo evidence of him throwing it to multiple defenders over the course of one game it wasn't enough, and he's lucky it was only one pick last game, too. Hopefully we move on after this week, and if I had to guess it would be for his attitude why he loses his position, if he loses it.

Well, obviously Franks was not good on Saturday...one really good 36 yd strike for TD. He had time to throw and I could see open WRs, but its easier being an armchair QB than on the field. He is in year one of Mullens offense. AND may I remind everyone that we have a very good chance to be 10-2....and you have to give Franks some credit for that....along with the team of course.
The defense has been the one thing that really has helped....but also keep in mind that compared to the past few years the offense has been so much better and is the reason why we are better overall.
I think he may have gotten too hyped for the game, but it didn't appear that way seeing him on the sidelines. Mullen will know what/when/where the QB situation is or will be....none of us do. He sees them every day in practice. Jones I hope will not burn a redshirt and with the new rules he probably wont. Idaho would be a very good game to get him more snaps. He cant play in every game left on our schedule or he will lose a year.
Mullen must have thought highly enough of Jones to insert him in a huge game...but he almost caused a lost fumble on an attempted pitchout on third down. He should have known you cant be too shallow on option pitches.
Again...none of us knows what Mullen knows or will what he will do. Mullen would be great in Las Vegas as a card dealer.

I don’t know if I can fully blame Emory on that fumble. The defense made a really good play on him. If the defenders hand never touches the ball the ball gets to the running back and I believe it would’ve been a first down.

I was team Trask during Spring and Fall camp but moved on from it when Franks was named the starter. Not wasting my energy on something that I cant change.

Finch he was too shallow....or too close to the line of scrimmage to make that pitch..it could have been a turnover and tank God it wasn't. He will learn through reps how to make those reads and make the option pitch successful.
Again, the fact he is in the game at all with so much riding on it is a telling fact to me. I just hate to see him burn a redshirt and I wish I could remember if he played some in our first game against Coastal Carolina. I will have to check boxscores. If he did play in that game..thats two games and only gets to appear in 2 more?

Well, just looked up boxscore and indeed Emory played in our first game, had 3 carries for minus 3 yds...no pass attempts.
Somebody tell me what the rules are for redshirting?

I just think its funny that there are so many Franks apologists on this board but no one hesitates to shite on a hardworking player like #12 McWilliams.
It is what it is. I said pre-season 7-5, with optimism sometimes I posted 8-4. UF is 6-2, they've lost 2 games, when I thought it would be 3 losses by now. They have 2 averages teams and 2 bad teams left on the schedule, they could very easily finish the regular season with 9 or 10 wins, which is far beyond my expectations.
I said preseason they had to stay healthy at MLB (reese) and at corner (Wilson and CJ).
The games they have lost have been games where 2 or more of those players did NOT play.
As long as CJ and Reese are healthy the rest of the year, UF won't lose many games unless Franks loses his shite altogether.

Its bad when you see “fans” just waiting for the team to lose so they can scream from the mountain tops “I was right!!” while shaking their pom poms.
I may not like a player, i may not like a HC but I never hoped for the Gators to lose. Some guys on here act like snowflakes hoping America tanks so they can say they were right about the Potus.
“See, I told ya Franks isnt good”
No shite motherfkr, noone said he was great, we said hes the best we had that was ready.

You can play in 4 games and still redshirt.

Again Straws, Bitch, moan, complaint, grip, fuss, whatever, at the end of the day Franks is the best QB we have on the roster or he wouldn't be playing!
For the record, you will never hear me bash any of our players, some can play better some may not but they are still student athletes and deserve our support.

As Spurrier would say to players when they came off the field: "It's not your fault, it is my fault for playing you"

Well said.
quote:
Franks is the best QB we have on the roster
Franks may be the best QB on our roster regarding team cohesion, but you can't say anything with certainty, so I'm not so sure why you keep saying this. Emory Jones has a much higher ceiling than Franks.
You can say: "Franks is probably the best QB on the roster", but saying outright that he is the best is just an assumption.
Anyway: I'm not here to gloat or 'bitch and moan", I haven't all season. I was right about Franks, from the very beginning and I mean, if you guys think I'm just going to come back and be like: "Nah, we're all on this bus", well no, I'm going to tell you guys what it's like.
You guys said Franks was making huge strides, I said wait until we play a good team. Now we're back to Franks struggling to make 100 yards passing -- and I mean struggling.
We were one possession away with 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter, gentlemen. Our QB had 85 yards on the day before that. We could have easily won that game Saturday. He's not the answer, so let's drop these stupid little "I'm angry because I'm wrong" tiffs we have on this board and move forward with talking about the QB of the future.

Straws everyone can see you for what you are...its sad really. Talk about something else. But no, you cant because your disturbed mind is so far from reality.
CAN you talk about something else?????????

The thread is about Franks you fricking idiot.
Can you do something else? Maybe make your own thread where you can get triggered by yourself?

Is there really anyone on here who thinks Franks is the future ? Franks seems to be the best option right now but everyone seems to agree that he is not a good enough runner to start next year . Franks has been manageable most of the year .
Posted on 11/1/18 at 4:42 pm to tjv305
He would have to make gigantic strides to start next year. Jalon Jones is absolutely crushing it and Emory Jones is a fit for the system. I think his future at QB was always limited to this season, max next season.
I wouldn't be floored if he came back and won it again, but I think he's definitely on borrowed time.
