I have a legit, non-snarky question for Straws re: Franks

Don't want to go round and round on his future or ceiling, but I am curious how you would compare 2018 Feleipe to 2012 Driskel or, more importantly, 2013-2014 Driskel.

We had an 11-2 team in 2012. Driskel started 12 games and had a slash line of:

156/245 (63.7%)
1646 yards
6.7 AY/A
12 TD/ 5 int

He had 0 games where he attempted 30 or more passes, and his game with the most attempts (29, against Louisville) was one of the worst games of his career.

Did you buy into the 2013 hype that Driskel had majorly improved as a passer and would be one of the focal points of the offense? He had 33 attempts against Miami (mediocre game) before tearing his ACL against UT. In 2014 he had 43 and 45 attempts against WMU and UK but averaged a paltry 6.17 ypa in both games.

I guess what I'm getting at is that this is a recent strong comparison of a project QB with a very limited skill set that failed to develop at UF - do you feel like Feleipe is ahead, behind, or on the same trajectory of mid-career Driskel?

For reference, Feleipe is at:

103/182 (56.6%)
1406 yards
8.1 AY/A
15 TD/5 int

He has 2 games with > 30 attempts (loss to UK, win against MSU).

I defended Driskel arduously on this board because he was in a system that didn't fit him. Franks has no system that fits him, and doesn't show really any signs of being a Quarterback. I mean, his ceiling is maybe practice squad in the NFL.

Furthermore:

Driskel was part of a defensive HC and faced:

#5 Texas A&M.
#5 Georgia. (Tied)
#8 South Carolina.
#9/10 FSU.
#14 LSU.
#13 Louisville
#23 Vanderbilt

Their combined records:

76 - 17.

Two 12-win teams. (Florida State, Georgia)
Three 11-win teams. (Texas A&M, South Carolina, Louisville)
One 10-win team. (LSU)
One 9-win team. (Vanderbilt)

If Franks faced that same competition he would embarrass himself.

These are not even remotely similar in regards to competition played and HC present. Swap HCs (Mullen with Driskel, Muschamp with Franks) and Franks isn't even a Quarterback.

That is a 100% legit and fair response. That 2012 schedule was fricking brutal. I still can't believe UF won 11 games that year.

Franks has a coach with a history of developing QBs. Driskel played for a coach that has a history of stunting QBs. Look at how Bentley has looked this year compared to last.

Driskel would've been a beast in Mullen's system. Like, Heisman-level good.

And, Straws, I think Driskel could've been successful in an NFL-style system -- he's in the NFL now -- but with a coach who had any inkling of an idea of what he was doing offensively. He had a rare combination of arm talent and athleticism that we just wasted.

But to the point of the thread, I think Franks is a much less talented QB than Driskel (still talented in his own right, but not as talented) playing for a much better coach. Franks should continue to improve under Mullen; Driskel regressed under Champ.

Did anyone expect Straws to give Franks any cred??? You shouldn't start these shite posts to give him reason to respond. His boy Trask languishes on the bench for a reason. Driskel had some talent but he NEVER had the team support Franks has. Suck it Straws. Last I checked we are 6-1 and ranked 12th. Of course Franks has had nothing to do with it...he is obviously holding the team back.

You act like I champion Trask when it's clearly you who always comes to get that jaw loosened for Franks.

Let's take a look at where we stand as a team:

Blocked Kicks: #4
Defensive Touchdowns: #6
Fumbles Recovered: #1
Punting: #28
Passing Defense: #9
Sacks Allowed: #23
Tackles Allowed For Loss: #25
Rushing Offense: #43
Passing Offense: #90.

I mean, if you want to give credit to #90 (literally the worst rated position we have on the team), knock yourself out, reel. It just seems pretty fricking stupid if you ask me.

" it just seems " the only intelligent part.

Recheck your facts Straw Baby....passing offense we are 69th in the country and maybe its because we don't throw the ball that much??? Huh?

We are also # 39th in the country in total offense.

Franks isn't perfect...but what QB is? Stop bashing him. He is our QB...deal wit it.

If we finish the year with 10+ wins and Franks doesn't implode, he will be the starter for 2019, no question. With Mullen continuing to develop his talent, I believe he will be the starter at UF for then next 2 years. If you don't like it, learn to live with it, it's happening. No one currently on the roster or no one that will be coming in as a freshman will take the job from him if he keeps improving and we keep winning.

There was some rather interesting chatter on Gatorsport about the Vandy and Franks.

The conclusion is that Franks is improving...15 TDs and 5 picks (2 which were of the deflection kind) and has shown leadership skills etc etc. The one thing I found really worthy was the discussion about WHO in the SEC would you take as a QB rather than Franks?? Think about that for a minute. Bentley hasn't done anything, Burrows ditto, Fitz we know all about, Guarantano isn't an option imo, Shumur with so many inconsistent games, Wilson at UK looked horrible when made to throw, Fromm isn't all that either...leaving Lock, Ta'mau & Tua. And lets face it...Ta'mau is part of an air raid offense and Lock not to far removed. So tell me how many QBs would be better at UF than Franks? He is 6'6" 240 and a soph and still growing into his body. When he is a high draft choice Straws will be as quiet as a church mouse.

I think a bunch of these QBs would be really good under Mullen. He made people think Fitz was a Heisman candidate...

Passing Offense per NCAA.com

Passing offense is determined by Yards Per Game and we are completing just around 211 yards a game (abysmal numbers if you're too daft to understand).

This thread was meant for me, stop being a big, fat, sopping wet shitty diapered baby and let people talk football. Someone asked me my opinion, I gave it. If that opinion cuts you so deeply because you're too thin-skinned to accept legitimate criticism then please, seek another medium to communicate about football.

People thought the exact same thing about Fromm, and that is not the case at the moment.
