2011 was self imposed.
1986: Dale Brown bought the kid a coat to go to his grandmother's funeral.
And he happily took the NCAA punishment for it.

As far as 1986, the report states different.
A coach paid a recruit's meal & hotel room; plus paid for his brother, sister, and bother-in-law's hotel, a couple of meals; plus a rep. of LSU athletics transported 2 recruits from their home to Baton Rouge for a camp and paid for the camp. Also gave them cash.
