It's not so much of a buyout as it is he's fully guaranteed.

Kirk Ferentz has a $22MM buyout. He must have the best agent in the world or has dirt on the entire Iowa administration. Guy has been the epitome of average outside a couple outlier years and has had as much or more job security than any coach on the planet.

It really does suck to be so strongly tied to a national championship coach who has our recruiting at #1 in the nation and has drastically improved the team in his first season. Oh, well. Jokes on us, I guess. Even we can't afford to get rid of him now. There go our plans to poach Ed or Will or Chad.
