Why can't we bring in a technique coach to work on technique?

Kicking into the endzone is simple physics. Foot speed, mass and where the ball is contacted will result in the same result ever time.

Since we haven't had a coach who can either recruit or teach this...can we just hire a consultant?

Now, more than ever, other than the occasions that call for an onside or squib kick, you want to kick it out of the endzone every time.
I really believe that the kickoff will go away very soon and possessions will just start at the 25 for each team.

Well...not until we get a kicker that can actually reach the endzone. We are one of the few teams left that leaves kickoff returns in play.

Limpert can’t consistently get it in the end zone. He has an issue with over kicking which leads to no flight time and more line drive kicks. You’ve probably noticed that on some missed FGs as well this year.

Limpert is what he is at this point. This is another position we are going to have to recruit our way out of. Use a scholly possibly this year if we end up taking around 29 or 30 guys.

With the new fair catch rule, our best bet is to sky kick it to around the 5 or 10 and have them fair catch. That’s basically what happened all of yesterday minus the opening KO.

Limpert is already taking up a scholly and being worthless as is Blake Johnson. Screw wasting schollies on kickers and punters that can't kick for shite in a game. We could find the same results or better in a walk on for each position. Plus, providing schollies for these positions won't mean anything if Chad isn't willing to hire a full time dedicated ST Coach.

Limpert looked good on his FG yesterday.....he CAN do it...he just doesn't do it and some technique critique is necessary.

Kicking is something that can be learned...anyone can get better at it. All won't have the leg strength to be a SEC kicker...but he probably does.

Yet...we haven't coached kicking technique in years up there. Just turn em loose and let em kick it and take what we get.

How's that working for us?

He kicked a 54 yarder that looked damn near perfect. He's got enough leg for sure.

And there's a lot more that goes into it than just the kicker. The snap, the hold the timing, the wind, the turf... A lot that can go wrong.

Hedlund has kicked well since he left. Limpert has a good leg on him. The problem is what you mentioned there... we don't seem to give a rat's patooty about coaching technique and we haven't for years. And for years our special teams have been lackluster at best.

When Morris was first setting up things the one thing I remember everyone talking about here was the need for a special teams coordinator. And Morris didn't go that route.

A decision, I might add, that has blown up in his face rather spectacularly.

Hedlund missed two on Saturday, including a potential game winner.

He had been good before that. Its nice to see that the curse of Arkansas kicking follows along with a player.
