Because ... Ole Miss.

Think about it. Listen. All Ole Miss did was outbid Clemson for four of those Georgia HS kids. Look what happened to Ole Miss. They're screwed for five years.

Rooster - You should watch the doc I mentioned "Paid in Mississippi". Even with all the mess that Ole Miss got themselves into, it's very likely that Hugh Freeze would still be the coach there if not for the school pissing off Houston Nutt.

It's only because Houston Nutt was being blamed by Ole Miss for all the football infractions (saying it happened under Nutt and not Freeze) that caused Nutt to get an attorney to do some work against Ole Miss. There was a FOI request for Freeze's cell phone records and an investigative journalist (who worked for rival Miss. State fan website) called every number on the Freeze's cell phone call log and found some that were to prostitutes.

That's what got Freeze fired....not the pay for play. It's kind of amazing really, but that's how good the cheating is today, the head coach has plausible deniability.

I'm going to find that and watch it when I get home from Vegas next week.

You're right about Nutt ... he was the loose cannon they should have just left-alone. No one can blame the guy for defending his reputation.

Also, I think what got Freeze in the most trouble, especially with fans (and I have family are are Ole Miss alumni and boosters and huge fans) was Freeze's hypocrisy when it came to the hooers, the escort service and the fact that it wasn't just traced back to some of the recruits but also to him personally.

The fans could have lived with the pay for play and even Nutt's backlash ... but the rampant hooering put them over the edge. Freeze had been preaching his God fearing Puritan schtick for years, almost to Jimmy Swygert levels leading fans in prayer before booster events and giving away free bibles, etc. Speaking at churches and so on. And then he gets busted not only hooering himself but knowing about hooers being bought for recruits during their visits.

But, then again, as testified to by Courtney, Tennessee for one had been doing that for some time.

There are so many verifiable stories out there ... it boggles the mind.

Oh, and don't get me started on the Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas and SoCal stories that I've heard first hand accounts about or read about in autobiographies.

One of the best stories about cheating in NCAA football is about the old SWC. There have been shows done about it, books written about it and the stories told about it trumps all of those ... which proves one thing for sure. The NCAA doles-out punishment selectively and it's all about the money.
