So why don’t we do that?
What does Bama or Auburn or LSU do?
Bend the rules a little
JP and Goldman didn’t get to the top listening to the rules
Because ... Ole Miss.
Think about it. Listen. All Ole Miss did was outbid Clemson for four of those Georgia HS kids. Look what happened to Ole Miss. They're screwed for five years.
Well .... not sure LSU and Bama have to cheat. Auburn we know cheats and has for years, but they're good at it.
Maybe we do bend the rules, a little, who knows.
Neither did Lehman Brothers ... and look what happened to them. Too big to fail and all. My broker moved down the street to Merrill Lynch and he's finally happy again but damn, he paid the five year price. And he was a big dog with Lehman, he had to start lower with Merrill Lynch / Bank of America. Look at how far back Ole Miss has been knocked.
We can't afford that to happen.

There's an "easy" way to bust the taters, but it would require an athlete not giving a damn about the on field retributions or having any ties (friends or family) to that cow college.

We bend the rules alright how else do you think Derrick Watson was driving those escalades. that's just one that I do know about.

Ole Miss didn’t have a coach worth a damn though
All that talent and couldn’t get over the hump.
Hugh Freeze? With that talent and staff we have (and in the east) that ends
Also as said, that was the whole coaching staff that knew. From reading what toneski said there’s a difference between “bagmen” and the Freeze approach which was very SMU like
ETA: i actually worked with a few older big dogs at Lehman who moved to Barclays when they took over em
I guess it depends who they were because they “seem” unphased. And because they were MDs at the firm they get checks once a year from them for a significant amount due to their service back in those days. (Probably shouldn’t have told me all that at a happy hour but whatever)

Rooster - You should watch the doc I mentioned "Paid in Mississippi". Even with all the mess that Ole Miss got themselves into, it's very likely that Hugh Freeze would still be the coach there if not for the school pissing off Houston Nutt.
It's only because Houston Nutt was being blamed by Ole Miss for all the football infractions (saying it happened under Nutt and not Freeze) that caused Nutt to get an attorney to do some work against Ole Miss. There was a FOI request for Freeze's cell phone records and an investigative journalist (who worked for rival Miss. State fan website) called every number on the Freeze's cell phone call log and found some that were to prostitutes.
That's what got Freeze fired....not the pay for play. It's kind of amazing really, but that's how good the cheating is today, the head coach has plausible deniability.
