Verdict?
It certainly seems to work fine, but I would have preferred the cloverleaf that we will need anyway in another 15-20 years.

Horrible and hopefully temporary

Sucks & is dumb.
Main traffic heading down 60 usually gets stopped twice. The first time at it and then on the bridge as the lights change too fast.
Supposedly the only reason they did it is because 5:00 traffic on weekdays would stack up on the bridge as people tried to turn onto eastbound 2818? That’s what I’ve heard anyways.

I was just curious whether anyone used the intersection on game day. It looks like they could, with some ease, basically open flow on 60 into college station, without interfering much for those turning left or right onto 2818.

I went through it both to and from the Clemson game

At least it's not in town. If it were, there'd probably be so many accidents from drunk people getting confused.
The ones in Oak Hill and San Marcos suck though

I don't like that particular design, but it does work. That was the best budgetary option, not the best overall option.

It’s ridiculous, Highway 60 is about to be four lanes all the way to 36

I didn't design or approve it
take that up with the Bryan Area Txdot office

What I don’t understand is the choice to NOT build a standard cloverleaf. Sure, it is a bit more expensive, but it will clearly be needed in a decade or two. Just do it now and avoid another two years of construction-related traffic problems when you finally build it.

Explaining the things TXDOT does is basically impossible. My best guess is that it plays into some future traffic plan there.

I can explain it: it’s a fad they are in love with. Everything out of TxDOT for the past decade has had something gushing about diverging diamond as the solution to all traffic problems. Institutionally they’re just in love with it. They want it to be everywhere. It’s like standardized testing in grade school. Anyone outside the system could see the obvious problems with it but legislators nationwide fell in love with the concept like it was the cure for cancer and now all teachers do all day is teach to various state tests.
