"Our dance team acts as our cheerleaders at all events outside of football."

So, cheerleaders aren't allowed on your football field? We get it.

This is a really bad rebuttal. Yes, every university has male cheerleaders. The question is why A&M doesn't have female cheerleaders.

In all seriousness, I don't hate the "yell leader" thing. I just hate gimmicks in general, and the hand signals are sooooo unnecessarily complicated. It's silliness. Traditional silliness but still silliness.

All of yall have more male cheerleaders than us anyways.

Alabama has 17 male cheerleaders.

Auburn has 11 male cheerleaders.

LSU has 20 male cheerleaders.

Ole Miss has 14 male cheerleaders.

Mississippi State has 9 male cheerleaders.

Arkansas has 10 male cheerleaders.

Texas A&M has 5 yell leaders/male cheerleaders.

Please forgive my daftness, I find the explanations I get from A&M folks to be highly unsatisfying. Many people really want to know what are y'all protecting or hiding that will be ruined by having those lovely ladies from the dance team joining the yell leaders on side lines to help pump up the crowd.

No one is hating on y'all for being gay-friendly, it's a courageous and principled stand y'all take. We just want to know why you're excluding women from cheering. It's by vote, meaning every student body that has come before has collectively chosen this (as a opposed to rule that could be blamed on some old dickhead born a century ago). Why? Why have these Aggies who came before voted this way?

Even West Point saw the wisdom of including women in cheer leading. I need to understand why Texas A&M have not come to this conclusion as well.

Women can be yell leaders. They’re all 100% elected by the student body and every year women run for yell.

I think we’ll see our first female yell leader in the next 10 years or so, most if not all of our yell leaders are members of the Corps of Cadets and lately women have been taking high leadership positions within the Corps.

Our first Female handler for Revielle was recently selected for next year and the handler always has a really good chance of being elected as a yell leader so she could very well be our first.

We don’t have Cheerleaders simply because that’s not how things started here when we were a all male military school. Things could change though if women started getting elected for yell.

I don’t know of any vote to have cheerleaders on the sidelines though, as a student I never voted on that. I personally wouldn’t mind having cheerleaders as long as they didn’t take the role/replace our yell leaders.
