NegaGators, WTF?

I truly spend more time arguing with negative Gator fans than with other teams fans. It's one thing to disagree with the coaches or think they need to improve but another to just consistently bash the coaches and the players. Get a fricking life or find another team to claim you pull for. Go Gators, in all kinds of weather...

it's the reverse psychology effect. the lower we make our expectations, the more excited we'll be when we win the natty.

And to think, I helped to get you back in........

In my experience it’s the sunshine pumpers with ridiculous expectations that turn ugly once the fall gets here.
In general. Not universally.
Some people like tj are just ugly constantly lol.

I just can't get over the number of posters that are already crucifying Mullen because "gasp" he hasn't brought in the #1 recruiting class so far. The man hasn't even coached a single snap as our head football coach and he's being treated as a bum. Talk about get a life, I don't think the LSU fans on the rant are half as tough on Coach O.

I couldn't have said this better myself.

It's what strangles Florida football talk on this side of the tracks. I don't think it's more than a couple of posters, but to some degree I think they're probably miserable in every facet of their life, not just Gators football.
What's bad is our expectations are about in line with their own -- most of us think 9 wins is outlandish, 8 is decent and 7 is unacceptable. Recruiting -- all I've ever heard from MSST posters is that Mullen finishes strong, and that he had 8 signees last year that had no interest in Florida until he got here is at least refreshing. 68% Blue Chips for a class that had 2 months to be salvaged is pretty good.

What is disappointing is that a leg humper will say, "Mullen sucks and is a lazy recruiter," then 2 or 3 NegaGators jump right in to agree with him. I just don't understand how you can pull for a team and be so negative about it. Give the man a chance, then if he doesn't win football games in a reasonable amount of time, we can all call for his head. Yes, I said the same thing about McElwain and Muschamp.

Well, I think the biggest difference is Mullen hasn't even been given a single game.
The point is, though: Being negative is a really safe position to take because no one really rubs it in when you're wrong. We're too happy celebrating our team to remember that one time TJ said the 83rd recruiting class was okay but the 30th was not.
But when they're right (eventually they will be right, since the good times don't roll forever), they will never let you forget it.

Other than Straws, there are some posters here that do not have Gator as part of their "nick" Why I wonder? Straws I know is an ardent fan and although he is thick skulled
at least he is a Gator.
I meant what posted on WRs & TEs....some posters CANT SAY ANYTHING POSITIVE about the Gators. Its bullshite. This is a Gator board and opinions are ok...but constantly saying negative things? According to some we are doomed and will be lucky to be 6-6.
As I have posted before...rather be an optimist and wrong than negative and right.

It is hard to explain why some are so ardently negative. Even if you are down about the state of recruiting, there's far more immediate things to be excited about.

I don’t understand why it’s considered so terrible to be a little negative when you think the Head guy is the wrong man for the job. It’s not like I won’t admit I’m wrong if I end up being wrong, I just don’t think Mullen is any better than average. I mean you can call me what you want I have thick skin, but I’m really just giving my opinion and being honest. It’s not like I’m intentionally shitting on the program because I enjoy it, I just don’t like what I see and I’m not one to produce artificial optimism. Oh well is what it is.

Because he hasn't coached a single game.
He hasn't had a single recruiting cycle under his belt.
If he's average, sure, be upset. If we sign a class worse than 12, be upset.
But at least give the goddamn guy one year. We've already seen great strides in several aspects of the program -- facilities are being upgraded (partially thanks to McElwain), there's finally recruit chatter (there was zero before) and our team looks like a team again.
Being negative isn't the problem, being negative before there are ANY concrete results is the problem. No one has signed LOIs, not a single game has been lost and Mullen has already shown infinitely more energy than the last staff.
So don't cloak your petty bullshite in "I'm just being a realist, I'm just not as optimistic, wahhhh." Instead actually make a case for your argument. Not just "we're not ranked in the top 5 even though we haven't been in years so let me pout myself to sleep about it".
I don't say Franks is bad just for the sake of being negative, I say it because there is ample evidence of him being bad -- statistics and footage, that override his circumstances.
Where is this with Mullen? I wait with bated breath.

24,,,,just so you know...I wasn't on the Mullen train at all when our coach " search " was under way. Freaking Kelly would have been a train wreck.
I was in the minority of one that wanted Louisville's HC Petrino hired...even with the baggage. He would have instantly made the offense lethal. But I understood the admins would balk.
Skiffy Kiffy was also a person of interest with his acumen for delivering offense...but no HC experience to speak of.
Now that Mullen is here Im very impressed with his energy level...even though he is from my wife's home town in N.H.
Im as southern as they get...I think my first blankie was a Dixie flag.
OLEM, are you drinking again?

We're going back to the Up-Tempo Power Spread with a hard nosed defense, why on Earth would anyone be upset with that? We'll get the players, but if anyone can make an elite Quarterback it's Mullen.
Franks has to show me first, before we devolve this into that type of thread.
I do like his weight gain, and if he can change his running posture I think he might be serviceable.
Stop the presses.

Well Straws you know I have preached to the heavens about the run game and young uns think Im a dinosaur. Well, I go back to the days of punting on third down if you were inside your 30 yd line...Bear Bryant did it often. In the early 60s you played field position and defense and waited for the other guy to make a mistake. Punters and FG kickers were like gold back then.
Of course we aren't going back to quick kicks and play for a 7-3 win. But special teams are huge in college football. Look at every game video and you will see how inept we were at field position. You start possessions inside your 20 or 15 yd line...its all uphill.
Franks was a victim of that + poor play calling and his inexperience..and at 215 he was a toothpick...he now is 240. Hopefully Mullen can coach he or Trask to let others win the game. We have a stable of backs. Will Emery be the QB in the future ?...none of us know how it will play out for him.
UK game will really let us know more about our team. Run a lot better than last year, avoid serious injuries and our defense can win games imo. We have a lot of upperclassmen on defense and offense. I wont be happy with 9 wins unless there good reasons beyond the coaches ability to prevent. I know I know...I have predicted similar outcomes several years. I was blind at how bad the situation was between Mac and the admins.

Straws me and you both know there isn’t a damn thing I can say that’s going to change your mind about anything, and I really don’t want to get into yet another pissing match. I think the mans average, I don’t need him to coach a game to have that opinion. He’s good for MSU I don’t think he’s the guy to get us where we want to be. That’s not me being negative that’s me being honest. I hope I’m wrong, nobody would be happier. I’ve been wrong plenty of times before.
